Peter Hambleton

Over a 40-year career, Peter has become one of our most accomplished stage and screen actors. He featured as the Dwarf Gloin (and a cave Troll) in Sir Peter Jackson’s hugely successful The Hobbit trilogy, made guest appearances in local TV dramas The Brokenwood Mysteries, One Lane Bridge, the BAFTA-nominated After The Party, and as Adrian Templeton in the recent TV3 comedy HAPPINESS. He’s won several Wellington Theatre acting and directing awards. 

In 2024 he performed at Circa Theatre in The Body Politic, followed by and the Lochburns, then 2025 in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. After playing numerous Shakespearean characters, directing several of the plays, receiving Fellowships to study Shakespeare production in the UK, and extensive involvement with Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ; in 2024 he launched Saturday afternoon everyoneShakespeare! sessions at Wellington's Te Auaha.
